What do you get when you put together a bull, a lion and an Irishman? It doesn’t sound like the perfect recipe for Supercars success, but trust us, it makes one hell of a cocktail.
Let’s rewind to September 2003 when said Irishman, who goes by the name of Roland Dane, took over a dwindling Supercars team and Triple Eight Race Engineering Australia was born.
It would be a few years until either the lion or the bull entered the Triple Eight scene. By the time they left the dark side (let’s not mention the F-word) and joined forces with one of Australia’s most iconic brands in Holden, it was 2010 and T8 had amassed one Teams’ Championship, two Drivers’ titles and three Bathurst 1000 wins.
Fast forward to 2013 and the bull’s long-awaited path into the Supercars Championship had finally been laid. With another two Bathurst and Drivers’ Championships wins, and three more Teams’ titles to the squad’s name, Red Bull Racing Australia hit the track with commanding form, winning on debut at the Clipsal 500.
Over the next four seasons, RBRA were unstoppable both on and off the track, and it made perfect sense to up the ante to further develop the partnership between the three powerhouses.
From 2017, the Supercars Championships’ most successful team of the last decade will fly a new flag as the sole factory-backed Holden squad.
